Scripture: Psalm 51:1–12
Have mercy on me, God, according to your loving kindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin.
Today’s Reflection
After being confronted by the prophet Nathan, David responds to his grievous sin not with excuses, but with honest repentance. He understands that his failure is not just behavioral—it reveals a disordered heart that only God can renew. This episode reflects on how confession becomes a doorway to restoration, not rejection. Lent invites us to stop managing appearances and bring our whole hearts to God. The One who confronts us in love is also the One who restores our joy.
A Prayer of Presence
Merciful God,
I bring You more than my mistakes; I bring You my tangled heart. Create in me what I cannot create in myself—a clean heart, a steadfast spirit, and the joy that comes from being fully restored. – Amen
A Prayer to Carry With You
Breathe in: Create in me a clean heart…
Breathe out: … Renew Your Spirit in me
