Hero: You
Owning your place in God’s story of quiet miracles
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:26–31; Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
Reflection
Maybe as you’ve walked through these stories, a quiet question has risen in you: But what about me? Could my ordinary life really matter like that?
Paul writes to the Corinthians, “Consider your calling… not many were wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble.” God did not build His kingdom on the impressive and important by human standards. He chose what the world calls foolish, weak, and low to showcase His own wisdom and strength.
Then, in Ephesians, he says something deeply personal: “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”
You are not an accident or an afterthought. You are God’s workmanship—His poem, His artwork, His handcrafted design. He has woven your personality, your story, your gifts, your wounds, your location, and your relationships into a unique calling. There are good works—often quiet, local, and relational—that He has already prepared for you to step into.
You may never see yourself as a “hero.” That’s okay. Most of the people we’ve met in these pages didn’t either. They simply responded to God in the moment they were given. They spoke a word, opened a home, carried a friend, resisted injustice, sewed a garment, shared a meal, gave a gift, stayed faithful.
Heroism in the kingdom of God is not about being noticed. It is about being available.
What if you began to see your life through that lens? Your caregiving, your job, your neighborhood, your church, your friendships—all as places where Jesus is already at work, inviting you to join Him. You don’t have to become someone else. You don’t have to wait for a more “spiritual” season.
Right here, in the life you actually have, you are God’s handcrafted hero.
Not because you are strong, but because He is.
Not because you are perfect, but because He delights to work through weakness.
Not because you have a grand platform, but because His love travels beautifully through small channels.
Unassuming heroes are simply beloved children of God who dare to believe this and walk it out, one ordinary day at a time.
Centering Prayer
Father,
Thank You that I am Your workmanship, not a mistake or an extra. Thank You for the unassuming heroes of Scripture and history who show me what love looks like. I offer You my story, my strengths, my weaknesses, my fears, and my hopes. Lead me into the good works You have prepared for me, and teach me to live as Your beloved, unassuming hero in this world. – Amen
Practice for Today
Ask God to show you one “good work” prepared for you today. It will likely be small and local. When you sense it, do it intentionally, trusting that you are walking in your true calling.
Journaling Prompt
If I really believed I am God’s workmanship, created for good works, how would it change the way I view my ordinary day?
Closing Blessing
Know that you are uniquely crafted by the Father’s own hand.
Receive your life as the exact place He intends to shine through you.
Step into the good works prepared for your feet alone.
Live in the quiet, confident calling of God’s unassuming hero—you.
Pray as You Go
Breathe in: I am Your workmanship…
Breathe out: … help me show your love
