Scripture: Matthew 7:24
“Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.”
Reflection
Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with a striking image—two builders, two foundations, two outcomes. Both hear His words, and both face storms. But only one endures: the one who builds on rock. Hearing truth is not enough; wisdom is revealed in doing it. Faith that listens but never acts is like a house built on sand—impressive for a season, but fragile when tested.
The rock is Christ Himself—His teachings, His presence, His unchanging nature. To build on Him is to root every choice, value, and response in obedience to His word. It means trusting His wisdom when our instincts differ, following His way even when the cost is high. The storms of life will come—loss, disappointment, uncertainty—but when our lives rest on His foundation, we stand unshaken.
The Spirit works in us as both architect and strength, guiding the construction of a life that can withstand the winds. Each act of obedience sets another stone in place. The wise builder doesn’t escape the storm; he outlasts it. For where Christ is the cornerstone, every storm becomes a testimony of His steadfast grace.
Centering Prayer
Lord,
Make me a wise builder. Let my life rest on You, my Rock. When the storms of life threaten me, help me to trust in Your grace and trust in Your peace. Teach me not only to hear Your words but to live them. – Amen.
