Scripture: Matthew 6:22

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.”

Reflection

Our eyes shape our lives. An eye focused on heaven fills the body with light, while a diseased eye fills it with darkness. Jesus reminds us that what we fix our gaze on determines the condition of our souls.

When our vision is clear—focused on God’s truth—we are illuminated by His Spirit. But if our gaze is clouded by greed, envy, or distraction, darkness spreads inward. Focus and attention can easily go astray when the things of this world distract us from giving attention to God. Attention shapes affection, and affection shapes life.

The Spirit trains our sight. He teaches us to lift our eyes from temporary glitter to eternal glory, to see God’s fingerprints in creation and His presence in the ordinary. A sound eye is a Kingdom eye —clear, focused, receptive. To live with such vision is to walk in light.

Centering Prayer

Lord,

Clear my vision and help me to focus on You. When the distractions of this world cloud my sight, fix my gaze on You alone. Give me the power to focus on what glorifies You. Fill me with Your light so that Your light will shine through me to others. – Amen.

Practice for Today

Be mindful of what captures your attention today. When your gaze drifts toward envy or distraction, redirect it to God with gratitude.

Journaling Prompt

What most often clouds my spiritual vision?
How might the Spirit restore clarity in my focus?

Blessing for the Day

Lift your eyes to truth.
See with the clarity of the Spirit.
Let light fill your whole being.
Live this day in God’s illumination
and share your light with the world around you.

Pray as You Go

Breathe in: Eyes fixed on You…
Breathe out: … my body is full of light
