Scripture: Matthew 6:9-10

“Pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth…’”

Reflection

The Lord’s Prayer is both simple and profound. In a few short lines, Jesus teaches us to pray in alignment with God’s heart. We begin with worship: Our Father, holy is Your name. We move to surrender: Your Kingdom come, Your will be done. We then ask for daily provision, forgiveness, and deliverance from evil.

The prayer Jesus gave us is also a model for how we should live. We recognize God’s pre-eminence and power over our lives. God’s will becomes the pathway we seek. We then recognize God’s hand leading us to fulfillment of our needs, peace in our relationships, and confidence in God’s protection.

This prayer shapes us. It turns our eyes upward in praise, outward in forgiveness, and inward in dependence. It teaches us that prayer is not bending God to our will but yielding ourselves to His. The Spirit breathes these words into us, making them both pattern and power.

When prayed sincerely, the Lord’s Prayer becomes a doorway into Kingdom living. It reminds us daily that we are children of a holy Father, participants in His Kingdom, and recipients of His provision and grace.
