Scripture: Matthew 5:13-14

“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”

Reflection

Having described the character of His followers, Jesus now describes their mission: they are salt and light. Salt preserves, flavors, and purifies; light reveals, guides, and drives out darkness. Both are small in themselves but transformative in effect.

Disciples are not called to withdraw from the world but to engage it with holy influence. Salt is only useful when mixed into food; light only shines when it is set on a stand. In the same way, our faith is not meant to be hidden but lived openly in the world.

Jesus tells us that salt that has lost its flavor is powerless. A dim light provides little illumination. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, his power and divine light shine through us to others.

This influence is not about drawing attention to ourselves. Jesus says, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” The Spirit empowers us to live visibly and authentically, pointing others to the glory of God. In Christ, you are both seasoned and shining —a witness of the Kingdom wherever you go.

Prayer

Father…

Let me be salt and light in my world today. Preserve what is good, flavor my actions with Your love, and shine through me to reveal Your presence. May my life bring glory to You. – Amen.

Practice for Today

Identify one simple act that could bring light or hope into someone’s day—a kind word, an encouragement, a prayer, a small service. Do it intentionally as an act of Kingdom witness.

Journaling Prompt

How has God used others as salt and light in my life?
How is He calling me to shine His light in this season?

Closing Blessing

Be salt in a tasteless world.
Be light in a dark place.
Let your life glorify the Father.
Walk today as a witness of His Kingdom.

Pray as You Go

Breathe in: Salt and light…
Breathe out: … for Your glory
