The safest way to face change is to fear it, resist it, or react quickly enough to stay in control.
The grace I receive
The Spirit gives me power, love, and a steady mind for what I cannot yet understand.
Reflection
The future can make fear feel reasonable.
Things change. Familiar structures shift. Technology moves faster than our ability to understand all of its consequences. Churches change. Work changes. Families change. Our bodies change. The world we learned how to live in does not stay still.
Fear notices all of that and says, Be ready to defend yourself.
Fear can make us suspicious before we have enough information. It can turn difference into threat. It can make us cling to the past simply because it is familiar. It can also push us toward every new promise because we are afraid of being left behind.
Either way, fear becomes the power making the decision.
Paul reminds Timothy that fear is not the spirit God has given us. The older wording many of us remember says God gives power, love, and a sound mind.
That is a remarkably good posture for standing at a threshold.
Power means we are not helpless before change. We do not have to give every new circumstance authority over who we become.
Love keeps us from turning the unfamiliar into an enemy. It allows us to remain concerned with what is good for people, not merely with protecting ourselves.
A sound mind gives us room to think. We can ask questions. We can learn. We can notice risk without surrendering to panic. We can recognize possibility without becoming naive.
This is discernment from a settled center.
Love Beyond Measure has been forming that center. We have been learning that we belong, that Christ is our peace, that the Spirit is present within us, and that our strength does not have to be manufactured.
Now those truths begin to matter when we look outward.
The world does not need more frightened Christians reacting to every change as though God has lost control of history.
It needs people who can remain awake. People who are not easily manipulated by outrage or anxiety. People secure enough to listen. People grounded enough to say no when something diminishes human dignity and open enough to say yes when a new possibility can serve life and love.
You do not have to decide today whether everything coming is good or bad.
You can meet it with the Spirit God has already given you.
Power. Love. A sound mind.
Fear does not have to choose your future for you.
A prayer of presence
Spirit of God,
Change can awaken fear before I have time to understand what I am seeing. I release the need to react simply because I feel uncertain. Strengthen me with Your power. Keep love at the center of what I value. Give me a steady mind that can listen, learn, question, and discern. Let my response to the future come from Your presence within me.

A practice of grace
Notice one change in the world or in your life that quickly produces fear or irritation. Before forming an opinion about it today, pause and ask three questions: “What would power look like here? What would love protect or make possible? What would a sound mind want to understand before reacting?”
