Scripture: Matthew 5:37
“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.”
Reflection
In a culture where oaths were used to mask dishonesty, Jesus calls for simple integrity. Let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. Anything beyond that, He says, drifts toward deception.
Integrity of speech flows from integrity of heart. Words are powerful—they shape trust, reveal character, and carry the weight of truth or falsehood. When your speech is reliable, others know they can depend on you without suspicion. Your words carry authority not because of dramatic promises, but because of consistency.
The Spirit forms this integrity in us. He convicts us when we exaggerate, manipulate, or shade the truth. He teaches us to speak with clarity and humility. In a world of spin and half-truths, honesty is a bright testimony. To speak with integrity is to reflect the God who is faithful and true.
Centering Prayer
Lord,
Let my words be trustworthy. Keep me from deceit and exaggeration. Shape my speech to reflect Your truth and faithfulness so that others will see your integrity through me. – Amen.
Practice for Today
