Scripture- Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.”
Reflection
We know what hunger feels like in our bodies—that insistent longing for nourishment. Jesus says the same intensity belongs in our souls: to hunger and thirst after righteousness. This is not about self-righteousness or moral achievement but about longing for more of God’s goodness to shape our lives.
This hunger is a gift of the Spirit. It awakens when we see the gap between what is and what could be. We long for peace in our communities, holiness in our own hearts, and truth in a world that is seized by deception. This ache is not from emptiness; it is the very appetite God promises to satisfy.
The Kingdom of Heaven satisfies our spiritual hunger. In Christ, righteousness is not only granted to us but also given in us. The Spirit fills what we cannot fill on our own. When you long for what is right—in your life, your relationships, and your world—God’s promise is certain: you will be satisfied.
Centering Prayer
Righteous Father,
Awaken in me a hunger for what is good, holy, and true. Fill me with Your Spirit so that my life reflects Your justice and love. Satisfy my longing with Your presence. Amen.
Practice for Today
Notice one area where unrighteousness shows up around you—an injustice, a harmful habit, or a broken relationship. Instead of despair, let your hunger rise in prayer: “Lord, let Your righteousness reveal itself in me.”
