Here is a devotion to start your day!
A spoken version of this devotion is available through the Still, Here audio reflections podcast.
Scripture: Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
Reflection
Many people struggle with purpose because they think they must create it.
They fear they are behind, missing the right opportunity, or failing to discover some grand calling before it is too late. That anxiety often produces a life full of activity, but lacking in joy, peace, and contentment. It becomes easy to overlook the good already in front of you because you are searching for something bigger somewhere else.
But Paul speaks differently.
We are His workmanship.
We were created for good works.
God prepared them beforehand.
The movement begins with God, not with your striving.
Purpose is not invented from scratch. It is discovered in relationship, unfolded through faithfulness, and walked out one step at a time. The good works of God are not usually dramatic at first. They often appear in the ordinary places—today’s responsibilities, today’s conversations, today’s opportunities to love, serve, and respond with grace.
You are not behind if you are seeking Him.
You are not failing if the path feels quiet.
As you attend to what God is doing now, the next step becomes clearer. Purpose grows in participation, not panic. The works prepared for you do not have to be forced into existence.
They are already waiting to be walked in.
A Prayer of Presence
God of wise preparation,
Quiet the fear that I might miss what You have for me. Release me from striving to manufacture a purpose You have already begun preparing. Teach me to be present to what is in front of me today. Open my eyes to the good works already taking shape around me. Help me trust Your timing, Your leading, and Your preparation. Let me walk with You instead of racing ahead of You.
– Amen
Carry This Prayer With You
Breathe in: You prepared the way…
Breathe out: … help me walk in it
You do not have to force your life into meaning.
As you seek God and stay present to what He is doing now,
the path prepared for you will become clear enough for the next faithful step.
This work is freely shared. If it nourishes your life with God, you’re welcome to help sustain it.
