Scripture: Matthew 6:3-4

“But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your merciful deeds may be in secret; then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

Reflection

Jesus redirects our focus from public recognition to hidden faithfulness. Generosity loses its Kingdom power when it becomes a stage performance. But when we give quietly, we reflect the Father’s nature—who gives abundantly, often unseen. When given in secret, the gift becomes more about its is meaning and purpose, not its material value.

Secret giving purifies motive. There may still be a temptation to give in secret, yet in hope of gaining a reward. Love without hidden motive is what Jesus calls us to—love free of comparison and pride, reward and return.

God sees what no one else notices, and His delight becomes our real reward. Such hidden generosity is not wasted but multiplied by His Spirit.

The Kingdom is built not only through grand acts but through countless unseen choices: a prayer whispered, a meal shared, a gift slipped quietly into another’s hand. In these secret offerings, Christ is honored and the Spirit forms humility in us.

Centering Prayer

Father,

Teach me to give as You give—freely, quietly, joyfully. Purify my motives. Dissolve my need for reward and praise from others. Create in me a desire to please you above all. And let my generosity flow from love, not from the need to be seen. – Amen.

Practice for Today

Do one act of generosity today without telling anyone. Let it remain a secret between you and God.

Journaling Prompt

How do I feel when I am not recognized for what I give?
What does that reveal about my heart?

Blessing for the Day

Give in love, not for applause.
Seek the Father’s delight above all.
Let secret generosity shape your soul.
Live a life of hidden faithfulness
knowing Your Father sees your every act.

Pray as You Go

Breathe in: Seen by You...
Breath out: ... content in Your presence
