Scripture: Psalm 102:7
“I watch, and have become like a sparrow that is alone on the housetop.”
The crowd is gone. The flowers are fading. The sympathy cards stop coming. Life—for everyone else—moves on. But you’re still here, in the silence. That’s when loneliness sets in deepest. After the funeral, after the casseroles, after the support fades into the background.
Psalm 102:7 captures this moment with haunting clarity: “like a sparrow… alone on the housetop.” Perched in a high, exposed place—watching but unseen. That’s what grief can feel like. You may be surrounded by people yet still feel desperately alone.
But you are not abandoned. God sees the sparrow. God sees you. Loneliness does not mean absence of love—it means your soul is still searching for its bearings in a world that has been forever altered.
The One who watched Jesus weep at Lazarus’s tomb now watches over you. He draws near to the lonely. He doesn’t rush you to “move on.” Instead, He sits beside you on the rooftop. Quiet. Present. Faithful.
