Scripture: Luke 17:20-21
“God’s Kingdom doesn’t come with observation; neither will they say, ‘Look, here!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ for behold, God’s Kingdom is within you.”
When we think of “holy ground” we usually think of a place. Not just any place, but a special location like a church, a mountaintop, or a quiet garden. Holy ground isn’t a location we go to. We find holy ground when we realize that God in us is holy ground.
The people Jesus spoke to expected him to set up an earthly kingdom free from their oppressors and enemies. They depended on a place or a circumstance to feel safe. Jesus was supposed to be the one who set up that place. The kingdom that Jesus came to establish was a disappointment to many, but a blessing to everyone.
When Jesus says, “God’s Kingdom is within you,” He did not mean in a metaphorical sense. He was serious. The Kingdom of God is in you. You are God’s holy ground. In this holy ground God is with you – always.
When life gets difficult, we don’t have to search for help. God’s kingdom is at work in each of us. When we experience joy, God is already celebrating with and within us.
We learn that finding holy ground, and finding holiness within, doesn’t require us to go somewhere. Finding God’s holy ground is something we find when we become aware of God’s presence in our lives.
Holiness doesn’t arrive – it’s revealed in you.
Practice: Grounding in the Present
Throughout your day, invite God into your normal or mundane tasks.
Choose a few seemingly boring tasks today – driving to work, typing an email, washing dishes.
Before each one, pause and say: “This is holy ground. God is in me.”
As you do it, pay attention to how you feel, how you breathe, what you notice.
Invite God to share those moments with you.
At the end of the day, ask yourself: Where did I most feel the presence of God today?
Journaling Prompt
“If I believed this moment was holy ground, I would…”
Write for 5–10 minutes without stopping. Let your thoughts surprise you.
Closing Blessing
Turn your gaze inward today:
to the holiness in your thoughts,
to the presence of God in your feelings,
to the work of God in what you do.
Become aware of His amazing presence
in what others may not ever notice.
Know that God’s kingdom is at work in you, not somewhere else.
The Kingdom of God lives in, and through, all you do.
“As You Go” Prayer
Inhale: Right here, right now…
Exhale: God lives in me.
Unfortunately, I am behind, but I loved Grounding in the Present!
