“Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, ‘Rejoice!’ Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
Reflection
Paul repeats himself on purpose: “Rejoice… again I say, rejoice.” Joy isn’t a one-time reaction; it’s a repeated decision to anchor yourself in God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances.
This isn’t about ignoring reality or pretending everything is fine. It’s about choosing to focus on the unshakable truth that God is near. Joy flows from His presence, not from your situation.
When anxiety rises, Paul gives us a pattern:
Pray about everything.
Thank God in advance.
Rest in His peace.
Joy, gratitude, and peace work together like armor, guarding your heart and mind. Choosing joy again and again becomes an act of trust, a declaration that God is in control.
Centering Prayer
Lord…
Help me choose joy today—not once, but again and again.
Guard my heart with Your peace, and let my life reflect the confidence that You are near. Amen.
Practice for Today
