Scripture: Zechariah 4:10
“For who has despised the day of small things?”
After deep loss, even the simplest tasks can feel monumental. Getting out of bed. Washing a dish. Writing a thank you note. Life shrinks down, and what once seemed routine now requires courage. This is the sacred work of starting small again.
Zechariah 4:10 offers a gentle challenge: Do not despise the day of small things. God is not disappointed in your slow steps. He delights in them. The small things are the beginning. They are seeds of a life being rebuilt—not despite the grief, but through it.
It’s tempting to believe you should be doing more or be further ahead, but the truth is: you are where you should be right now. God meets you in the small, often quiet, present moment.
Rest in the blessing of taking your time. You are not behind. You are not failing. You are learning to live again, one breath, one choice, one whispered prayer at a time.
Be brave and courageous. Take that one small step even though it seems insurmountable.
This is how resurrection begins—not with fireworks, but with fragile beginnings. Don’t overlook them. They are holy.
Practice for Today
Choose one small thing that feels life-giving: a walk, a shower, a kind word, a meal. Do it as an act of resurrection.
Journaling Prompt
What small step feels manageable today? How does it reflect my desire to live again?
Closing Blessing
Experience the gentle joy of God overflowing in every step you take.
Step boldly into your future even if it seems small.
Nothing is too trivial.
Nothing goes unnoticed.
You are rising, one sacred inch at a time.
Pray as You Go
Inhale: I start small…
Exhale: …and that is enough.
