Day 24: The Joy of Obedience
Obedience to God is a pathway to intimacy, not a burden of performance
Scripture: John 14:23 (WEB)
Jesus answered him, ‘If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.’
Obedience is often misunderstood. It can sound like control, punishment, or pressure. But Jesus reframes it: obedience is not an obligation—it’s about relationship.
Jesus tells us that when we love Him, we’ll keep His word—not to earn His approval, but because His love already lives in us. Obedience becomes the natural response of a heart anchored in love.
We obey—not out of fear of getting it wrong—but because we already belong. The desire to keep His word flows from a full and secure heart, not a striving one.
The promise Jesus gave us is staggering: “My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.”
Our obedience makes space for God to settle in us. Every time we trust His way over our own, every time we surrender or follow His voice, we open another room in the house of our soul for His presence.
Obedience is not restriction—it is an invitation. A life of obedience is a life of ever-deepening communion with the One who lives in you.
