Day 23: Listening Through the Noise
God is always speaking, but we rarely hear Him above the volume of modern life
Scripture: Isaiah 30:21 (WEB)
And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way. Walk in it.’
Life can feel like a constant assault of voices, notifications, all competing for your attention. In that sea of noise, the still, small voice of God can seem to disappear beneath the surface.
But Isaiah gives us this promise: even in the noise, God’s voice is near. Gentle, but unmistakable, calm but powerful. His voice offers us direction step by step.
God doesn’t shout over the noise. He speaks into your soul with clarity, not volume. As Elijah discovered, God’s voice may not be in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire—it comes as a whisper: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
The question is not, “Is God speaking?” He always speaks. The real question is, “Am I listening?”
God invites you to practice holy listening—to cultivate quiet moments amid your full schedule where you open your heart to Him.
You don’t have to strain to hear His voice. You simply need to be still enough to hear the One who has never stopped speaking.
Practice for Today
Throughout your day, practice “inner pauses.”
Stop for 30 seconds every few hours.
Breathe deeply.
Whisper:
“Speak, Lord. I am listening.”
Notice what thoughts, impressions, or invitations arise in the quiet.
Journaling Prompt
When and where do I feel most distracted or overwhelmed?
What small step could I take today to create space for listening to God’s voice?
Blessing
Allow the noise of this world to fade away.
Let your spirit become still.
Calmly listen for the whisper behind you—
the gentle voice that says,
"This is the way. Walk in it."
Pray As You Go
Inhale: Speak, Lord...
Exhale: ... I am listening
