Scripture: Luke 2:27-28
“He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law, then he received him into his arms, and blessed God.”
Reflection
Simeon had been waiting his whole life.
The Holy Spirit had whispered a promise: You will not die before you see the Lord’s Messiah. So he waited. Not with passivity, but with expectancy. He stayed faithful. He listened to the Spirit. He watched.
And then, one day, the Spirit nudged him: Go to the temple. Today is the day.
He obeyed. And he saw them—two poor parents, carrying a baby no different in appearance from any other. But Simeon knew. His spirit leapt. He took the child in his arms and said, “Now, Lord, you can let your servant depart in peace.”
Simeon held salvation in his arms—for only a moment. But that moment was enough.
His life was not marked by achievement, status, or acclaim. It was marked by one encounter. One moment of fulfillment. One glimpse of God’s faithfulness.
Sometimes, that’s all we need. Not every promise God gives us is about long seasons. Some are about sacred moments.
God honors the faithful wait with divine appointments.
Simeon reminds us that even if the road has been long, a single touch from God can fill it with purpose.
Centering Prayer
Faithful One,
Teach me to wait with expectation, not resignation. Like Simeon, let me be led by Your Spirit and ready when the promise arrives. Even if it’s brief, even if it’s small, let one moment in Your presence satisfy a lifetime of hope. – Amen
Practice for Today
Sit in silence today and simply pray: “Lord, I am watching for You.” Stay alert throughout the day for unexpected moments of divine presence.
Journaling Prompt
What have I been waiting for—and what would it look like to recognize the fulfillment when it finally arrives?
Blessing for the Day
Your waiting is not wasted.
Your longing is not forgotten.
Recognize the promise even when it comes quietly.
And be ready to hold the joy that’s been coming for years.
Pray As You Go
Breathe in: My eyes have seen…
Breath out: … Your salvation
