Scripture: Exodus 3:5
“Don’t come close. Take off your sandals, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.”
Grief can transform comfortable places. Places you once walked in joy now echo with absence. Rooms feel hollow. Memories ambush you in grocery aisles and at traffic lights. But what if the very places that now feel broken are becoming holy?
When Moses encountered the burning bush, God didn’t lead him away to a temple. He met him in the wilderness and declared that place holy. The place of sorrow for you can also become sacred. Not because it’s easy, but because God shows up in it.
Take off your sandals, the verse says. In other words: be fully present. Don’t run. Don’t avoid. Don’t rush to escape. This pain has become a meeting place. God is here.
The hospital room. The graveside. The well-worn chair. These are not just scenes of loss. They are also places where God bends low to whisper, “I am with you.”
You don’t have to pretend these places don’t hurt. Just know this: they can hold healing too.
The ground of your suffering is holy—not because it feels good, but because God is standing there with you.
Practice for Today
Choose a quiet space—your room, your porch, a cemetery—and whisper: “This is holy ground.” Invite God to make His presence known.

even when that place is painful.

You are standing on sacred ground.
