Scripture: Hosea 11:1
“Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Reflection
If you were writing the story of God’s Son, Egypt wouldn’t make the cut.
Egypt was the place of slavery, the home of false gods, the empire of Pharaoh. For centuries, it symbolized bondage. And yet, when God needed a safe haven for Jesus, He sent Him there.
And that’s not the strangest part. Hosea had already said it would happen—“Out of Egypt I called my son.” A statement about Israel’s past became prophecy for Jesus’ future.
This is how God tells stories. He weaves history with hope. He hides redemption in the least likely places. He enters the lands we avoid.
Egypt isn’t just a location—it’s a metaphor for all the places we think God couldn’t possibly go. But He does. He’s already there. Waiting. Working. Redeeming.
Don’t miss the pattern: Jesus is born in obscurity, rejected by His own, and sheltered in a land of idols. Why? Because God is showing us that no place is too dark, too foreign, or too fallen for His presence.
Even Egypt becomes holy ground when Christ enters it.
So, wherever you find yourself today—whether it feels sacred or far from home—know this: God has already been there. And He’s calling you forward.
Centering Prayer
God of Unlikely Places,
You enter the spaces we’ve given up on. You go where others won’t. You redeem what we think is beyond rescue. Surprise me again with Your presence. Show up in my Egypt,
and turn exile into holy ground. – Amen

Journaling Prompt
Where in my life has God shown up in a place I never thought He would?
