Day 18: Work as Worship
What if your daily tasks were more than chores. What if they were sacred offerings? Today we discover how even the most ordinary work can become an act of holy worship when done with God in mind.
Scripture: Colossians 3:23–24 (WEB)
And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
What would life be like if every task, responsibility, and assignment took place on an altar before God?
Paul gave the Colossians a radical vision: that all our work – no matter how mundane, demanding, or invisible – is an offering to God. Whether you’re managing a household, running a business, or navigating daily demands, God is with you in the process.
When we stop believing that we work for others and begin to see ourselves working for the Lord, we shift from the mundane to the sacredness in life. Pulling weeds becomes an act of devotion. Writing an email transforms into an expression of Christlike love. Helping a friend or colleague becomes a moment of presence with God.
We often imagine that God is most glorified in sermons or songs—but He is equally glorified in phone calls, to-do lists, and housework. Everything you do becomes holy when your heart acknowledges the very presence of God in the work you do. The sacred doesn’t begin at church; it begins in the posture of the heart.
Practice for Today: Reframe Your Work
Pick one task today – big or small – and do it deliberately as an offering to God.
Before you begin, say aloud or silently:
“Lord, I do this for You.”
Feel the difference. Let it become worship.
Journaling Prompt
What would change if I saw my work as sacred?
How can I invite God more deeply into my responsibilities?
Closing Blessing
Open your heart to feel the divine presence of God in your work
Dedicate your hands as instruments of worship.
Let every task be the music of your devotion.
Serve Christ with diligence, and receive your eternal reward.
Pray As You Go
Inhale: This is for You…
Exhale: …my Lord and my reward.
Your what if's are helping me in my Bible study journey. I read the episode of in the kitchen I could probably begin singing a hymn or two while peeling the potatoes.
