Scripture: Matthew 2:11

“They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

Reflection

The Magi didn’t show up empty-handed.

They brought treasures—foreign, costly, symbolic. Gold for a king. Frankincense for worship. Myrrh for death. Strange gifts for a baby… but perfect for the Savior.

What they brought wasn’t just beautiful—it was prophetic.

Gold affirmed Jesus’ royalty. Frankincense pointed to His divinity. Myrrh hinted at His suffering. These were not random tokens—they were God-ordained provisions, each one whispering something about the child they laid before.

And more than that—those gifts likely funded the holy family’s escape to Egypt.

God used the wealth of pagan astrologers to protect the King of Kings. Provision came from the hands of outsiders, wrapped in strange forms, but timed with perfect precision. That’s how God works.

He is not limited by who we expect Him to use. He can turn the gifts of the world into the means of preserving His purpose. He can take what others mean as ceremony and use it for survival.

What’s in your hands? What treasure do you carry that seems out of place, but may have a divine purpose?

What someone else might call strange, God may call sacred.

Centering Prayer

God of Unexpected Provision,

Nothing I bring is wasted in Your hands. You use strange gifts, foreign hands, and humble offerings to fulfill Your holy plans. Take what I offer—however small or strange—and use it to create what You are protecting and preparing. – Amen

Practice for Today

Offer one resource today—your time, a talent, a possession—as a gift of worship, even if it seems small or ordinary. Ask God to use it however He chooses.

Journaling Prompt

What gift in my life might God want to use for His kingdom—even if it seems unlikely or unconventional?

Blessing for the Day

Bring your treasure, even if it seems meager.
Offer it freely and let God anoint it with purpose.
Allow God to turn your gift into provision,
And your offering into prophecy.

Pray As You Go

Breathe in: What I have…
Breath out: … I give to You
