Scripture: Matthew 2:9
“They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.”
Reflection
Before a preacher spoke, the sky did.
Before a scroll was opened, a star declared the good news. It shimmered in silence, yet it called the Magi across deserts and borders. A light in the heavens became a sermon that spoke to stargazers and seekers.
God has always used creation to point to Himself. The psalmist said the heavens declare His glory. And on the night of Jesus’ birth, they declared something more specific: Here is the King.
The star wasn’t just a cosmic flare—it was a divine invitation.
It moved. It led. It hovered until it stopped over the place where the Child was. This wasn’t ordinary light. This was divine choreography, a beacon of grace pulling people from a world of shadows into a place of worship.
Even today, God still uses unexpected signs. He still shines in the dark. And often, the things we dismiss as coincidence or background may be preaching the gospel to us in quiet, persistent ways.
The star was never the destination. It simply pointed to the One who is.
Follow the light. It still leads to Jesus.
Centering Prayer
Creator of Constellations,
Let me follow Your light with simple trust. Even when I don’t know where it’s leading, I will go. Preach to me through sky and silence. Make my steps sure, not because I know the way, but because I know You’re in it. – Amen
Practice for Today
Pay close attention to one part of creation today—a tree, the sky, a bird’s song, a breeze. Let it become a personal sermon from God’s heart to yours.
Journaling Prompt
What has God used—outside of church or Scripture—to get my attention and draw me closer to Him?
Blessing for the Day
Let the heavens preach and the earth proclaim.
Let the light guide your wandering heart.
Follow what draws you deeper into grace.
And find, at journey’s end, the face of God.
Pray As You Go
Breathe in: Light of the world…
Breath out: … lead me to where You dwell
