Scripture: Matthew 5:44
“But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.”
Reflection
Loving your enemies is the summit of Jesus’ teaching. This goes against human nature. It is unnatural, even impossible apart from the Spirit. To love those who love us is easy. To love those who oppose us is supernatural—a sign that we are children of the Father.
Jesus does not tell us to have a loving attitude. That wouldn’t require effort. This is active love: bless, do good, pray. It goes beyond tolerance to intentional proactive kindness. Such love reflects the Father, who sends rain and sun on both the righteous and the unrighteous. To love your enemies is to participate in God’s generous heart.
Jesus embodied this love on the cross, praying for His executioners. When the Spirit fills us, He makes the impossible possible—transforming hatred into blessing, curses into prayer, and hostility into witness. Loving enemies does not excuse their wrong, but it frees us from being shaped by hate. It reveals the Kingdom in its purest form: love stronger than fear, grace stronger than revenge.
Centering Prayer
Father,
Teach me to love as You love. Fill me with the Spirit-driven desire to be a blessing to those around me—even those who oppose me. Help me bless where I have been cursed, pray where I have been wounded, and do good even to those who oppose me. Then, I will be a reflection of who You are. – Amen.
Practice for Today
Think of someone you struggle to love. Pray specifically for them today. Ask God to bless them and to soften your own heart.
Journaling Prompt
Who feels like an “enemy” in my life?
What would it look like to respond with the love of Christ?
Blessing for the Day
Love beyond your limits.
Bless beyond your comfort.
Pray beyond your strength.
Live today in the Spirit of the Father’s love,
and reflect that love in your world.
Pray as You Go

Breathe out: … help me love them too
