Scripture: 1 Kings 19:12
“After the earthquake a fire passed; but Yahweh was not in the fire. After the fire, a still small voice.”
We often look for God in the grand and glorious—in the miracle, the breakthrough, the loud reassurance. But sometimes, God comes in the quiet. It’s easy to be distracted by the overwhelming and emotional turbulent events that our world seems to value.
After the chaos and exhaustion, after the fire and the storm, there is silence.
And in the silence, there is Presence.
Elijah found himself alone, afraid, and worn out. God didn’t scold him. It wasn’t until Elijah gave up searching for the Presence in the flashy and fantastic that God acted. He came close in quiet. If you find yourself in a season of silence, it doesn’t mean God is far away. It may mean He’s drawing nearer than ever.
When we accept that silence isn’t always an absence of meaning, we find that the quietness sets the stage for God’s astounding message.
Holy silence may not explain—but it will embrace.
