Scripture: Philippians 1:3-6
“I thank my God whenever I remember you, always in every request of mine on behalf of you all, making my requests with joy, for your partnership in furtherance of the Good News from the first day until now. I am confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
For Paul, joy was a condition of his soul, not result of perfect circumstances—He wrote these words from prison. His joy came from remembering, praying for, and partnering with others in the work of the gospel.
There’s a truth here we can’t miss: joy grows in the soil of relationships. When you invest in others—not from pressure, but from overflow—you find your own heart expanding. Encouragement lifts not only the receiver but the giver.
Purpose thrives in community. God didn’t design us to live in isolation, chasing private definitions of success. Your purpose is knitted together with the joy you share with others. He designed us to celebrate, grieve, labor, and rejoice together.
When Paul faced difficult times, he thought of those who were fellow laborers. Knowing they were praying for him the way he prayed for them was a constant source of energy and strength.
If your joy feels stuck, try sharing it. Celebrate someone else’s progress. Thank God for the people who have shaped your faith. Watch how joy multiplies when it’s given away.
Centering Prayer
God,
Thank You for the people who have partnered with me in faith.
Help me remember them with joy today and let my gratitude overflow into encouragement. Amen.
Practice for Today
Send a note, text, or prayer to someone who has encouraged you. Let them know they matter.
Journaling Prompt
Who has multiplied my joy by walking with me in faith? How can I honor them today?
Closing Blessing
Remember those who have blessed you.
Speak life over them.
Know that your purpose is rooted in relationships.
Share your joy freely—because the more you give it, the more it grows.
Pray as You Go
Inhale: You give me joy…
Exhale: … and I give joy to others
WONDERFUL! Joy IS contagious and spreads from us to others! My favorite hymn is “Joyful, joyful we adore the God of glory, Lord of love…” from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
