Here is a devotion to start your day!
A spoken version of this devotion is available through the Still, Here audio reflections podcast.
Scripture: Romans 12:1–2
Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Reflection
Paul does not ask us to die on a literal altar. Instead, he urges us to present our bodies—our actual, embodied lives—as “a living sacrifice.” Not a one-time dramatic act, but an ongoing offering: our habits, schedules, relationships, work, money, and decisions laid before God as worship.
Surrender is not demanded in a vacuum; it is a response to grace already given. The One who calls us to offer ourselves has first offered Himself for us. Our sacrifice is never to earn mercy, but to live inside it.
Paul contrasts being “conformed to this world” with being “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Conformity happens by drift; transformation happens by surrender. As we yield our patterns of thinking and behaving to God, He re-shapes us to discern His will—good, pleasing, and perfect, even when it differs from our plans.
Love in the wilderness invites us to step off the throne of our own lives and onto the altar of God’s purposes. Not because He is a tyrant, but because He knows who we truly are and what we are made for.
Today, surrender may look as simple as saying: “All I am, I offer to You again.”
A Prayer of Presence
Merciful God,
In light of Your kindness, I offer You my whole self—body and mind, plans and patterns. Transform me from the inside out until my life becomes worship in Your hands. – Amen
Practice for Today
Choose one ordinary task—chores, commuting, answering email—and consciously present it to God as a “living sacrifice.” Do it slowly, attentively, as an act of worship rather than mere obligation.
Consider This...
What part of my daily life feels least “spiritual,” and how might offering it to God as worship change the way I approach it?
Carry This Prayer With You Today
Breathe in: My life is Yours again...
Breathe out: ... I trust Your mercy
